The New Progressive Lens for Modern Presbyopes

Today’s technologies allow us to check emails on a whim on our phones, carry multiple books on tablets for plane rides, and help us stay connected to each other through social media. Some of our jobs require us to look at multiple screens or move from laptop to desktop and multi-tasking has become the norm requiring us to be able to do a lot of these tasks at the same time. More and more of the things we focus on everyday are all within arm’s reach. But unbeknownst to us, with these new technologies comes new strain on our eyes.

This can be especially problematic for presbyopic patients as finding a lens that provides the best vision at multiple near working distances. New progressive wearers were taught to ‘point your noise to what you’re looking at’, but this can be inconvenient in a fast-paced world. Essilor’s newest lens, the Varilux® X Series was designed to remove this drawback with its Xtend™ technology, reducing head movement so you don’t have to find just the right spot.

The Varilux® X Series was designed (with Generation X in mind, namely those born between 1965 and 1980) for individuals that are highly active and digitally connected. Almost 3,000 presbyopes around the world aided in the development of this lens through video selfies, focus groups, and new methods of wearer testing including Essilor’s new HouseLab™ – a controlled home environment to observe and discuss wearer experiences.

Don’t take our word for it, Essilor has already performed an international wearer study where more than 200 wearers, ~93% were already wearing progressives, received the Varilux® X series lens to try for two weeks. At the end, more than 95% were satisfied with their quality of vision when multitasking and 92% of participants needed few or no horizontal head movements to see clearly within arm’s reach and 93% reported few to no vertical head movements. Also, about 82% of wearers found the lens easy to adapt to.

We don’t personally perform studies at our practice but we do follow up with our clients after they receive new products. All the feedback we have gotten so far about the Varilux® X series has been very positive!

If this lens seems like a good fit for you, come in let us know!
